Biomimetic Dentistry is one way to save your teeth

Thursday, March 12, 2015 by Malisano Dental

Biomimetic Dentistry is very different to traditional dentistry.

It is minimally invasive dentistry that seals, strengthens and preserves healthy tooth.

Much of the time and money spent doing dentistry is redoing dentistry.

Fillings leak around the edges, teeth breaking around large fillings, old crowns failing, allowing bacteria to rot your teeth away from the inside leading to root canal therapy or tooth loss.

Biomimetic Dentistry stops this cycle.

With an accurate assessment of the problem teeth or tooth, only diseased and broken tooth structure is gently removed. Healthy tooth is left intact (not ground down) and disinfected. The missing tooth is then replaced and bonded with restorations to mimic tooth structure and make the tooth strong.

For over a decade, Dr Malisano has provided Biomimetic Dentistry. There is less need for root canals and extractions. Caps or crowns are replaced with porcelain onlays.

Restored teeth are stronger and last longer. The mouth is healthier and stays healthy for longer.

Dr Malisano and her team have the training, the technology, the materials and commitment to save teeth and improve your oral health.

Please forward this newsletter on “Biomimetic Dentistry is one way to save your teeth” to those who would appreciate it.

Night grinding is NOT a dental disorder

Tuesday, February 03, 2015 by Malisano Dental

People often connect grinding or clenching of teeth while asleep (Sleep Bruxism) as a dental disorder.
In actual fact, it is regarded as a sleep related movement disorder or one type of sleep disorder.

Worn uneven teeth, history of cracked fillings or teeth, generalized gum recession, chipped teeth and clicking jaw join are signs you may have sleep bruxism. The breakdown of the teeth and jaws are the result of a sleep bruxism, a sleep disorder.

Not all people make grinding noises while sleeping. There are those who clench their teeth tooth while asleep and this is a more serious form of bruxism. It is referred to as “ the silent disease”.

Sleep disorders affect up to 30% of Australians.
Lack of restful undisturbed sleep definitely impacts on the quality of life and life expectancy.

If not treated, it can lead to potentially devastating health diseases such as cardiovascular, heart attacks, diabetes and neurological diseases.
Good undisturbed sleep is essential for physical and mental restoration.

Dentists have the opportunity to assess and examine the airway of every patient they see.
The Dentist’s role is:
1. To recognize the signs of sleep bruxism and to manage it appropriately.
2. To optimise the physiology and provide support for the airway when the patient is asleep.
3. To construct an oral night appliance( not night splints) that suits the patient's needs.
The dentist will liaise with your GP because general health issues are best managed by your GP.

This is especially significant for those dentists with specific training in treating TemporoMandibular Joint Disorders, such as Dr Malisano.

Dr Malisano will determine if you have bruxism and will provide you with the appropriate professional care that you deserve- improved conditions for general health and for dental health.
