Jaw Pain, Clicking and Popping

Clicking jaw joints is one of the most common signs of Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMD) - problems with the jaw, jaw joint and surrounding facial muscles that control chewing and moving the jaw.

70% of people have signs of TMD and are pain free.

Not screening for TMD prior to any dental treatment can lead to the debilitating symptoms of TMD such as

Stress / Tension / Headaches
  • Jaw joint pain
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Tinnitus
  • Ear congestion
  • Neck pain
  • Pain behind the eye
  • Ability to sleep well

Dr Malisano has treated those with TMD when the symptoms have arisen after having a dental clean, general dentistry and porcelain veneers placed. This has occurred when TMD is not assessed prior to the dentistry being done.

Treating those with signs of TMD need a precise and different approach to all dentistry.

Only a minority of Dentists are trained to diagnose and treat jaw joint dysfunction (TMD). Dr Malisano is trained to help those with TMD.

If you have any of these signs of TMD.

  • Limitation of jaw opening
  • Noisy jaw joint
  • Clenching habit
  • Jaw clicking
  • Tooth grinding
  • Deviation of jaw opening

Consult with a dentist with specific training in TMD ( such as Dr Leanne Malisano) prior to having any dentistry completed.
Not doing so can lead you to pain, headaches and other comorbidities.
